Daniel A. Pinero, p.k.a. DP One, is one of Hip-Hop’s most up-and-coming talents. As a thorough practitioner of the Hip-Hop culture art forms, DP One manifests himself through deejaying, emceeing, and breaking. DP makes up one-fourth of the multi-talented DJ/turntablist crew, Turntable Anihilists, and also keeps himself productive in the b-boy community, as a member of Rock City Rockers, TCK and the Universal Zulu Nation / Zulu Kingz. Affiliation with these very active crews should be more than enough for most, but DP still manages to find time to tour worldwide with various recording artists, rip though college parties, spin monthly in NYC’s club scene and put out his own acclaimed series of mix-CDs, which have received positive reviews in such magazines as Stress, The Source, Connex List & Tablist. Can all this be accomplished by one person? Well, he may make it seem simple, but none of this comes easy. DP One has dedicated his life to perfecting his various crafts and sharing his talents.

The Brooklyn-born and bred DP, has been deejaying for over 10 years. In 1996, he was given his first break, opening up for DJ Stretch Armstrong at the popular NYC club, Buddha Bar. At this point, DP One started becoming known in the industry as an extremely versatile mixer; spinning everything from Hip-Hop, R&B, Reggae, House to Freestyle, Breaks, Funk, Salsa, and Merengue. As time passed on, DP started spinning and scratching for the well known “underground” emcees of the Makin’ Records Family; which consisted of Pumpkinhead, The Bad Seed, Medina Green, Don Scavone, Natural Resource, and others. He later became a member of a multi-talented super group called The Plague consisting of the founding group Hydra, Tonedeff, Pack FM, Substantial, Session, Mecca, Kameel-yen, The Bad Seed & Pumpkinhead. Leading to a multitude of live shows, DP One started gaining valuable experience. At various shows, he shared the stage and/or backed up the likes of RUN-D.M.C., Boot Camp Click, Slick Rick, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Common, M.O.P. and others. He also became one of the resident DJ’s for the popular bi-monthly Braggin’ Rites Emcee/Breakin’ competition founded by Bug’d Eyez, which helped him gain recognition & respect from the B-boy / B-girl community. In the club world, DP continued to grow as well. Working the decks at NYC hotspots like: The Skate Key, The Limelight, The Tunnel, Downtime, SOB’s, Nuyorican Poets Café, Club Ivy, Baby Jupiter, and several others, built up DP’s reputation. Around 1999, DP was approached to join two organizations; the b-boy centered, Full Circle Productions, and The Heavy Hitter DJ crew. Full Circle founder, Kwik Step, was very helpful in DP’s development of his breaking skills and in stage performance, allowing DP to participate in Hip-Hop theater productions & workshops. On the other hand, DJ Enuff of the Heavy Hitters served as a mentor to DP, advising DP on the music industry and helping to grow DP in New York City’s party circuit.

In next few years things continued to progress. Starting to develop as a tour deejay, DP was picked to spin on the road for several artists, such as; Pumpkinhead, Miri Ben-Ari, and J-Live. By completing two world tours with J-Live, DP One has performed in almost every country in Western Europe, and has finished a U.S. tour. He has also made a television appearance on the WB 11 network, showcasing his turntable prowess on their morning show. In late November of 2003, DP had completed performing in his first Broadway play, Soular Power’d. Produced by Kwik Step & Rokafella of Full Circle Productions, the play had a successful three week run at the highly acclaimed New Victory Theatre in New York City. Later in 2004, DP performed on a 15-date College and University tour for the prestigious Scratch DJ Academy.

Between 2004 & 2005, DP One had decided to leave both the Heavy Hitters and Full Circle Productions to focus on the development of his own crew, The Turntable Anihilists. Along with his crew mates Blowout, Xplor, and G.I. Joe, the Turntable Anihilists have a new focus. With the recent completion of Blowout’s Realeyez LP, the crew has been dedicating most of their time to preparing shows and promoting the album. Incorporating various talents in their live shows such as; deejaying / turntablism, emceeing & b-boying, makes this crew a unique entity. DP was also given the great opportunity to go on tour with Lauryn Hill, performing with her and her band at various spot dates in the U.S. and the Caribbean. Even more, DP has lent his talents to the recording world, by performing scratches on projects such as Jadakiss Kiss OF Death [LP], O.C., Immortal Technique Revolutionary Vol. 1 [LP], Aaron Berkson The Flow [LP], J-Live All Of The Above [LP], and Pumpkinhead’s latest recording album Orange Moon Over Brooklyn [LP], with whom he also still tours with, along with many other appearances which are all to much to mention.

As of late, DP made his first appearance in South America; performing in Bogota, Colombia along with Q-Unique (RSC / formerly of The Arsonists) for the Hip Hop Al Parque festival, which had 30,000 in attendance. He then made his way out to South Africa, accomplishing a three city tour with Wordsworth for the Tri-Con Festival. He returned to the theatrical world in July, 2006, performing in Imagine Tap. Imagine Tap is the groundbreaking tap dance meets Hip-Hop cabaret, which played a full month in Chicago’s Harris Theater. Directed and choreographed by Derick K. Grant, Imagine Tap was well received by the audiences. Two months later, DP returned to the New Victory Theatre for Rennie Harris’s New York Hip-Hop Legends; cultural dance performance. During the show’s two week run, DP One once again impressed with his skills of turntablism.

With all of these projects in motion, it is easy to see why DP One is one of Hip-Hop’s most intense performers. With goals to expand the notoriety of his deejay crew, The Turntable Anihilists, and reach the peaks of his various talents, DP One is extremely motivated and driven to making it happen. Be on the lookout for big things from the One, DP.
